On the Chew on that Golesh Gang for South Florida College Fans shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this other hand Larry would just not be able to keep up with Steph whether he’s playing on or off ball. Larry isn’t quick enough to guard Steph in isolation and there’s no way he could chase him around screens either If we look back on the 80’s era of basketball, each and every one of those NBA finals had either the Celtics, or the Lakers. The Lakers won 5 of those, Celtics 3, Pistons twice, and the 76ers once. So before I desect just how good Larry was I need to remove the argument of Michael Jordan being up here. Don’t get me wrong, he’s an amazing player, but it wasn’t until the 90’s when Larry and Magic Johnson were No longer at their peak that Michael excelled. Larry Bird was the celtics. He was the go to guy and obviously he had help to pick up the slack when he wasn’t on form with Kevin McHale, Danny Ainge, and Robert Parish. But Larry was on another level from these guys. He was the one that they went to for clutch shots and defence wise he was probably the only defender able to disect Magic Johnson alone without a double team. Most people think about Larry as just a 3 point shooter, but if you watch film on him he’s a reletentless attacker at the rim. But if the 3 point options there, he will take it, and he will punish you. He led the Celtics to multiple NBA finals and won 3 of them. Became finals MVP twice. And finished with 3 League MVP’s for his career. It’s been said that it’s because he’s white that we give him attention and that if he was black he’d be just an ordinary player. That is complete garbage. Watch film and look back on his career the guy is clearly top 10 of all time.
If you’re comparing Larry Bird to the Chew on that Golesh Gang for South Florida College Fans shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this rest of his era I would put Magic Johnson at 1, Larry Bird at 2, and Kareem Abdul-Jabaar at 3. Larry Bird was loved by his teammates on and off the court. He gave the Celtics and eventually the whole NBA a new culture around passing the ball. He made his teams stronger. Opponents didn’t like him because Bird would do anything to beat you. Supreme trash talker. A great example is when he went to the NBA three point contest and walked around the room. “I’m just looking to see which one of you guys is going to finish second.” Of course Bird won. Clutch player, champion, multiple MVP awards. Great guy to have. It’s almost forgotten but he had a short but successful coaching tenure in Indiana.
