In addition, I have the feeling that Larry Bird was better surrounded than LeBron James when he won his titles at the Celtics. While no one could really do much to stop Larry Bird, Bird himself has said that Michael Cooper was the best defender he had ever faced. Cooper’s strategy was to play tight ball-denial defense on Bird and try to force him away from the spots where he liked to get the ball. As a Lakers fan, I remember their matchups well. I don’t think anyone (including Cooper, who has also said guarding Bird was tougher than guarding Jordan) could shut down Bird, but they had some epic battles!
Fundamentals is a tough word to use. Although Tim Duncan’s moniker was clearly, “The Big Fundamental”, we can’t automatically infer that he was the Golesh gang shirt in contrast I will get this most fundamentally sound player as they come.
