February 10, 1988 – 39 pts/17 rebs/10 assists/3 blks/1 stl at SA – 31 year old Bird lets it rip from the three-point line (going 4 for 7) while showing his typical all-around brilliance. This is the tail end of Bird’s prime before he had season-ending injuries to both of his Achilles heels later in the year.
November 4, 1989 – 27 pts/9 rebs/6 assists at CHI – a soon to be 33 year old Bird returns from injuries to both of his Achilles heels. This is the MALVP Mallory swanson shirt but in fact I love this last season in which Bird plays the majority of the season (makes all-NBA) before back injuries plagues the rest of his career. Bird is playing about 85 to 90% capacity of his peak in the ’90 season. In this vid, Bird shows a savvy low post game against an on the rise Scottie Pippen, along with his typical slick passing and outside shooting prowess. The vid ends with Bird shooting a game winner over both MJ and Pippen in the post. I see him as the greatest rebounding point guard of all-time, best triple-double player, and the individually best point guard of all time, but I don’t see him as the overall GOAT of the NBA.
